Activities: The Vietnam nutrition association (VINUTAS) represent the national family of nutritional scientists of Vietnam. VINUTAS is a member of Vietnam Medical Association [VMA], Federation of Asian nutrition societies [FANS] and International Union of Nutrition Sciences (IUNS). The Vietnam nutrition association works closely with the National Institute of Nutrition (national nutrition focal point) and relative institutions in implementing the national strategy for nutrition 2001-2010 by appropriate and effective interventions and by promoting the healthy diet and life style for Vietnamese people. Otherwise, VINUTAS provide and share regular scientific information and findings among members through periodic publications, scientific meetings and short training courses. Members of the society are working mainly in health sector such as public health nutrition, clinical nutrition, food hygiene and food safety and other sectors related to nutrition as agriculture, food technology, food trade and education.
 
2007 activities:
  • Collaborating with the National Institute of Nutrition in revising the Food based dietary guidelines and Recommended dietary allowances for 2006-2010 (published)
  • Campaign of healthy diet promotion by the days of Micronutrients (1-2 June) and Nutrition Week (16-23 October)
  • Organizing national symposium on “Preservation of the traditional Vietnamese diet characteristics in the period of nutrition in transition” (17 August 2007)
  • Revising new edition of 2 scientific popular books: “Questions and answers on Nutrition” and “To be a mother” [published]
  • Technical assistance to young nutritionists in 2 small-scale research projects in Backan and Thaibinh provinces.
  • Technical assistance to provincial societies of nutritionists to develop professional activities
  • Conducting small scale Nutrition Education Project at Phu tho province

 
2008 activities:
  • Workshop: Reduction of stunting malnutrition in children at present time.[April 2008]
  • Short training course on current issues of breastfeeding and young child feeding practice [May 2008]
  • Organizing the 4th National Scientific Meeting with theme “Nutrition and Prevention of chronic diseases” (14-December 2008,ThaiBinh city) with 300 participants from the whole country.
  • Journal: ”Nutrition and Food science” [quarterly, in Vietnamese]

 
2009 activities:
  • Consultation to the implementation of the National Strategy for Nutrition [NNS] and the PEM control program.
  • Open two short training courses on breastfeeding and complementary feeding for 50 participants.[March 2009]
  • Contributing to the preparation of “ Encyclopedic dictionary of medicine”[Part : nutrition]
  • Edit and publish “Manual of Nutrition for family”
  • Journal : “Nutrition and Food science”[quarterly]
